At the time this inaugural issue of Avar: A Journal Life and Society in Ancient Near East heads to press, we are keenly aware fact that number new journals fields Biblical Studies, Egyptology, broader Eastern Studies have proliferated last decade. Yet, hope demonstrate our readers Avar fills an important lacuna academic study ancient past. The title journal, Avar, centers interdisciplinarity as primary framework for illuminating life society East. In what follows, will introduce vision such interdisciplinarity.
